Tajweed and Qiraat

Qiraat

This course introduces learners to the scholarly discipline of Qiraat, focusing on the recognized modes of Qur’anic recitation transmitted through authentic chains of narration. Students will study the principles, terminology, selected variations, and recitational features associated with the established Qiraat traditions.

Learning outcomes

1. Understand the concept, history, and significance of Qiraat. 2. Become familiar with the major recognized recitational traditions and their transmitters. 3. Identify selected differences in pronunciation, wording, elongation, articulation, and recitational patterns. 4. Understand the relationship between Qiraat, Tajweed, Riwayat, and Qur’anic transmission. 5. Appreciate the scholarly methodology used in preserving different authentic modes of recitation. 6. Apply selected Qiraat principles under qualified supervision. 7. Develop a stronger foundation for advanced study in Qiraat and Qur’anic recitation sciences.
